Dr Kathryn Austin
Chair , DIT Committee
Dr Kathryn Austin is the Chair of the AMA (NSW) Doctors-in-Training Committee. She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle in 2008 and is currently training to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Royal Hospital for Women, Randwick.
Dr Pradnya Dugal
Dr Pradnya Dugal has returned to the AMA (NSW) Board after serving on it from 2008 to 2010. Dr Dugal is a medical graduate with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney. In 2006, she graduated from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists with dual medals for both Radiodiagnosis and Pathology in the Part II examinations – an unprecedented achievement. She is a founding partner of Norwest Medical Imaging and affiliated radiology practices at Campsie, Strathfield and Rouse Hill. She is also a VMO at Blacktown Hospital and the Director of the Cardiac CT service at St Vincent’s Medical Imaging.
Dr Michael Gliksman
Chair , Ethics
Vice President , AMA (NSW) Board of Directors
Dr Gliksman was first elected to Council in 2001. He has been a member of the Ethics Committee since 2001, has previously chaired the Practice Committee and held the position of Chairman of Council. Dr Gliksman is an Occupational Physician and has held a number of advisory and consulting positions.
A/Prof Brian Owler
Chair , Hospital Practice Committee
Associate Professor Brian Owler has been a member of AMA (NSW) Council since 2009. He has an interest in research with a neurosurgical research laboratory at the Children’s Hospital and an academic appointment at the University of Sydney. He is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. He also has a private practice at Westmead Private Hospital and the Sydney Adventist Hospital.
Dr Saxon Smith
Chair , Professional Issues Committee
Dr Saxon Smith graduated from the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand in 2000 and also holds a Masters Degree in Health Law from the University of Sydney. After he interned at Gold Coast Public Hospital, Queensland, he has worked clinically at various public and private hospitals in New South Wales as well as with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and as a clinical researcher.
Elected to Council in 2005, he has been a member of the Board of directors since 2007. He is the current chair of the AMA (NSW) Professional Issues Committee having previously served two years as the chairman of the AMA (NSW) Council. He has several publications in areas including: Ethics; Medico-legal issues; Health policy; Workforce planning; as well as clinically in Paediatrics and Dermatology. He is currently a Dermatology Registrar at Liverpool Hospital.
Dr Michael Steiner
President , AMA (NSW) Board of Directors
Prior to being elected AMA (NSW) President, Dr Steiner served as Vice President and for the previous four years served as Honorary Treasurer. He is a Fellow of the AMA and serves on the AMA Therapeutics and Finance Committees. Dr Steiner is an ophthalmic surgeon and has held many leadership positions in the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, including President of the College and Chairman of the NSW Branch. He was also presented with the Australian Centenary Medal in 2003. Dr Steiner has over 30 years experience in eye surgery and works in private practice in Auburn and Northwood.
Dr Geoffrey White
Chair , AMA (NSW) Council
Dr Geoff White has been a member of the AMA (NSW) Council since 2006. He is part of the AMA Council for General Practice and is also a board member of the NSW Rural Doctors Network and AGPAL. He is a past president of the Rural Doctors’ Association of Australia and the Rural Doctors’ Association NSW. He has practised in Manilla, north of Tamworth, since 1981.
Dr Andrew Zuschmann
Chair , Audit
Honorary Treasurer , AMA (NSW) Board of Directors
Dr Andrew Zuschmann has been a member of AMA (NSW) Council since 2009 and Honorary Treasurer since 2010. He is active with RANZCOG, holding the positions of Secretary, and Chair Education of the NSW Regional Committee. He has a commitment to teaching (as a Conjoint Lecturer, UNSW), and the development of a sustainable workforce. He is a Staff Specialist at Sutherland and St George Hospitals, with a private practice in Miranda.
