Registration Renewal Information for Interns

If you are an intern, you are currently registered in the provisional registration category until 2 January 2012. Upon the successful completion of your internship, you will be moving categories from provisional to general registration. You will only be able to do this if you have successfully completed all of your intern terms.

In order to move from provisional to general registration, you will need to submit an application for general registration to AHPRA by the expiry date of your provisional registration, which is on 2 January 2012.

Once you are successfully registered in the general registration category in January 2012, you will need to renew your general registration by the expiry date of 30 September 2012 along with all other doctors. From this point onwards, your renewal will be due on 30 September every year.

Note: On the off chance that you do not complete your internship, you will not be eligible to apply for general registration. Instead you will need to renew your existing provisional registration (which cannot be done online). If you have any good reason to believe you may not complete your internship this year, email Glenn or call on (02) 9439 8822 for advice.

It is important to keep the following information in mind:

  • Know your registration expiry date. All current interns have a registration expiry date of 2 January 2012. You have until this date to apply for general registration once you successfully complete your internship.
  • Read the general registration application form carefully and be aware of the information you need to provide.
  • Make sure you keep your documentation for professional indemnity and CPD.

Key points to remember:

  • Provide AHPRA with your email address.
  • If your only option is to send in your application via post, you must allow enough time so that AHPRA receives your application before the deadline.
  • It is essential to complete everything on the application form. If you are unsure about any of the questions, email our Medico-Legal division or call on (02) 9439 8822 for assistance.
