Introduction from the Student Councillor
Welcome to the medical students’ page of the AMA (NSW)
website.
The AMA (NSW) is governed by a Council of 28 doctors and one medical student (me), each elected for a two-year term. If you wish to contact me, your representative on Council, please send me an email at any time.
Student membership of the AMA (NSW), the peak professional body for doctors, is free and you can join online here. With the support of our Council, who recognise that we medical students are the future of the profession, the AMA (NSW) is currently working with all seven MedSoc presidents, AMSA reps and AMA (NSW) reps to develop a closer relationship in 2012.
AMA (NSW) supports the efforts of the Doctors’ Health Advisory Service (DHAS). DHAS is a dedicated health advice and assistance contact for medical practitioners. Importantly DHAS makes its services available to medical students who can also confidentially contact DHAS about any personal health concerns.
DHAS offers a phone help line to provide personal advice to medical practitioners and students who are facing difficulties – usually in relation to stress, mental illness, drug and alcohol-related problems or personal and financial difficulties.
If you have any suggestions as to how we can best support you, please contact your MedSoc president or me directly.
