Stop the Clock: In Australia, a child is abused every 15 minutes
January 18, 2017AMA (NSW) President: Jillian Skinner’s legacy is infrastructure promises kept and clinician engagement
January 27, 2017AMA (NSW) President, Prof Brad Frankum, says Mike Baird’s Government has been strong on keeping its commitments on health funding.
“The Baird Government has kept an excellent record of delivering on the funds it has pledged to health infrastructure.
“Even with everything else going on in the health portfolio, under Mike Baird and Jillian Skinner, you could rely on the fact that when they said there would be money set aside for a hospital that it would be there.
“Over the last few decades in NSW, this is not always something that would have been true.
“Even though we at AMA (NSW) have been cautious about or disagreed with some of the decisions made in the Baird Government, there has been good reason to trust its word,” Prof Frankum said.
“Additionally, the Government, and Mike Baird in particular, have been very active in public health campaigns.
“From the Sydney lockout laws which successfully reduced violent crime, severe injuries, and load on hospitals in inner Sydney, to Mr Baird’s personal goal of reducing childhood obesity.
“Its focus on preventative health measures should be applauded and I hope future NSW Governments continue in the same vein,” Prof Frankum said.
“I understand Mr Baird is withdrawing from politics due to serious illness in his family.
“They have all clearly been put in very difficult positions and I sincerely hope that Mr Baird’s relatives have the best medical outcomes, “Prof Frankum said.
