May 19, 2015AMA (NSW) President, Dr Saxon Smith, says he is glad the State Government has moved so soon after Parliament resumed to ban e-cigarettes from being sold to children.
“I’m very happy to belong to an organisation that has been part of the campaign to ban e-cigarette sales to children.
“I’m also very happy that the NSW Government is continuing its good run on public health initiatives and is working on enacting this ban already,” Dr Smith said.
“I’ve said before that removing the smoke from cigarettes doesn’t make them safe for human consumption.
“Nicotine is still terrible for your heart, even if you’re not inhaling damaging smoke,” Dr Smith said.
“Australia has had great success in reducing smoking rates but we need to continue working on ways to ensure they stay low.
“Keeping e-cigarettes out of the hands of children is a good way to go about that,” Dr Smith said.
“I look forward to this ban getting through Parliament quickly and becoming law as soon as possible,” Dr Smith said.
