February 21, 2019AMA (NSW) welcomes the Government’s election promise to fund additional elective surgeries for children and the elderly.
“The important part about this announcement is that extra clinical staff will be employed to carry out the additional procedures.
“NSW hospitals are extraordinarily busy and the recognition that more doctors and health workers are needed to carry out this extra work is a welcome one.
“Building capacity is important if our hospitals are going to continue to face the growing workloads the rapid increase in demand for health services is creating.
“This demand is rising much more rapidly than population growth.
“It’s important to note that while adding on additional capacity to the system addresses this symptom, we need a more permanent fix that reduces this constant pressure,” Dr Lim said.
