NSW Government’s failure to support Northern Rivers health services is ‘wilful blindness’

December 23, 2022Several months on from the devastating floods in Lismore, Northern Rivers health service providers have received very little grant funding from Government to rebuild their businesses. General practitioners, pharmacists, and other health service providers have lost thousands in medical equipment, damage to their rooms and lost income. With the lack of support from Government, these providers have been left to self-fund their own hugely expensive recovery with some considering closing their businesses permanently.
AMA (NSW), with the support of NSW Rural Doctors Network, RACGP (NSW & ACT) and The Australasian College of Dermatologists, and other groups have launched the ‘Lismore Floods Postcard Campaign’ to pressure the State Government to take action.
Supporters of the campaign are asked to keep a look out for the Lismore Floods Postcard Campaign stand at local health services reception desks, fill in their details on the back of the postcard and give it to the receptionist for posting.
These postcards are addressed to the Minister for Emergency Services and Resilience, and Minister for Flood Recover, The Hon. Steph Cooke, to take immediate action and provide funding to primary care services in Lismore.
